On Friday 25th October, Dartfish released their first video analysis mobile application. Dartfish Express has been designed to offer simple analysis tools, while integrating with the existing family of video analysis and sharing products.
Dartfish Express will help coaches and teachers apply their knowledge to the video, giving instant on-the-spot feedback or sharing it via dartfish.tv. Several popular features have been carried over from the ever-popular full software:
All-in-one recording : Record high definition video using your iPhone or iPad’s built-in camera, then replay quickly and simply with a screen swipe.
Powerful playback controls : Scrolling through your video has never been easier. Have fun with the jog wheel to move frame-by-frame or for fast searching, or play in slow motion.
Take still shots : Focus your discussions on key moments by taking still shots of your videos and annotate them.
Add Key Positions : Show people what to look for! Add drawings to highlight what the video reveals, underlined with written comments.
Watch full-screen : No busy interface, just pure emotion! Play your videos or review your still shots in full screen.
Share via dartfish.tv : Dartfish.tv is a unique private video sharing platform. Video enriched with your notes, still shots and drawings, become a resource that can be referenced time after time by a carefully selected audience. Share your published videos with team members, clients, fans, and friends via social media, email or text message.
For more advanced analysis and networked versions of Dartfish, the full software is still available and better than ever, it works with an extensive range of cameras and video formats, integrates with data collection devices and offers an in-depth match analysis module.
Unique in its approach, the Global Coaches House will not only provide a meeting and focal point for the coaches and coaching organisations of the world as they attend the London Games, but also to business professionals and corporations sharing the growing interest in applying principles of sport coaching to the needs of their organisations and their own professional development.
We will be there at the Dartfish Performance Analysis Suite to demonstrate the various technologies that make up the complete analysis solution, that includes video capture with high-speed and IP cameras, integration with external devices such as Heart Rate Monitors and GPS units, and the upload to online mobile viewing platform, dartfish.tv. We will be sharing the unique experience Dartfish have gained from working with over 500 Olympic medalists from around the world, as well as learning from guest speakers and visitors during the Games.
The Global Coaches House will open each morning at 8am from 27th July to 12th August for an informal Hot Topic Breakfast, this will be followed by two Games Ready Coach Programme Sessions, a Work Out Lunch and an evening Masterclass.
Guest Speakers include: Dean Benton, Athletic Performance Director at Brubies Rugby; Frank Dick OBE, President of the European Athletics Coaches Association; Dr Scott Drawer, Head of Research & Innovation at UK Sport; Vern Gamebtta, Director of Gambetta Sports Training Systems, considered the father of Functional Sports Training; and Kelvin Giles, world-renowned for his knowledge of Athletic Development.
Dartfish 6 release 5 is available today! The continued rapid improvement of Dartfish is again demonstrated with the 5th release in under a year and just in time for our involvement in Olympics (watch this space for future blogs). This update is available free for all Dartfish 6 customers, all you need is an internet connection and the software will update itself! If you are impatient you can ‘check for updates’ in the ‘Help’ menu.
New Presentation Mode!
For team feedback, a new presentation mode allows you to show full-screen video on a second display, leaving you with full access to Dartfish tools (Windows 7 only).
The Tagging table (matrix) now allows you to cross-reference multiple categories. This will simplify tagging panel design and allow advanced number-crunching, directly from Dartfish.
The table (matrix) can now display duration (e.g. possession time) and percentages.
Table layouts can be saved and later recalled for rapid access to statistics and the video on which they are based.
Data can be represented visually, using data bars and colour scales then saved as an image that can be sent to other team members.
Try right-clicking your tagging panel now. A new flat style of button display has been introduced to make it easier to see when buttons are selected under adverse lighting conditions.
It is now possible to pause recording when receiving a stream from a DV or HDV source.
The player list selector tool can now be used to select up to 5 players. In the macro language, these are referred to in the following way: $(TeamListSelector0.keyword1), $(TeamListSelector0.keyword2), etc. If the category property of this tool is set, the selected player(s) will be recorded as a persistent keyword.
This release enables Dartfish 6 to use the H.264 video encoding capabilities of the latest Intel possessors. This makes creation of video for use on smart phones, tablets and dartfish.tv up to five times faster. Be aware that not all computers enable this feature.
Repeated file import is now faster because Dartfish will recall the last selected drive and folder.
IP Camera Support
An IP camera functions as a web server, streaming video to a network. The connection to your computer is the same as your connection to the internet – via a router or server which might be wired or wireless. Basic models are simple video devices and can cost just a few hundred pounds but some have advanced functionality, such as panning and zooming by remote control. This type of camera offers interesting possibilities for Dartfish users.
Dartfish 6 allows you to stream live video from Axis IP cameras and also offers a generic connection to IP devices using the UDP protocol. To use these devices, additional drivers must be installed and the connection is configured in Tools menu > Options > Network cameras. After configuring and enabling the device, it can be selected for capture in the usual way in the video recorder, Live Tagging or InTheAction.
